Lausa makes successful UFC debut, beats Chinese foe

By Ivan Saldajeno

PASAY--It may have been delayed by a month, but Jenel Lausa's triumphant entry to the UFC will never be denied.

The current PXC flyweight champion successfully entered the UFC cage with a win, beating Chinese opponent Yao Zhikui by a unanimous decision in the curtain raiser of UFC Fight Night: Whitaker vs. Brunson at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Sunday.

The said match was supposed to take place at UFC's Philippine return on Oct. 15 at the Mall of Asia Arena, but the entire fight card was canceled after BJ Penn, who was supposed to take on Ricardo Lamas in the headliner, got injured during training which left him without a choice but to back out.

The extra month, however, proved vital for Lausa as he polished his striking ability, and Yao felt it after getting knocked down a number of times during the match, especially in the second round.

While Yao would bring the fight to the distance, Lausa still got perfect 30's from the three judges.

Lausa improved to 7-2 overall, while Yao dropped to 2-5.
