Cone thinks Cruz is "semis MVP"

By Ivan Saldajeno

PASAY--Ginebra nailed the other PBA Philippine Cup finals berth after eliminating Star at the Mall of Asia Arena on Tuesday night.

After the game, Coach Tim Cone told the media who he thinks is the best player of the Manila Clasico semis.

And it's not who you think he is.

"I thought the MVP of this series, if I could choose one, would have been Jervy Cruz," Cone said.

Cruz's numbers during the semifinals were not as astounding as those of LA Tenorio, Japeth Aguilar, and Sol Mercado.

But Cruz stepped up just when he was needed the most, especially with Joe Devance sitting out the first two games, earning him the commendation from Cone.

"He was the guy who stepped up for us. With Joe's absence and sharing time with Joe the last couple of days, he was the key guy in my mind."

In general, Cone praised his team for pulling the series win off together.

"It was a real team effort. As a coach, you really enjoy it when everybody contributes," he further said.
