Lady Spikers recover in style, inflict NU first loss

 By Ricky Manliguis

SAN JUAN—Defending champions De La Salle snapped up National University’s three-game winning run with a 29-17, 25-16, 25-21 win to get back on the winning groove in the UAAP Season LXXIX women’s volleyball Sunday at the FilOil-Flying V Centre.

Surviving a testy first set, the Archers regrouped in the next two to win the one hour, 22 minute match, the Taft-based squad’s third win in four matches,

It was also a perfect bounce-back game for coach Ramil De Jesus’ squad  after Wednesday’s shocking loss to undefeated University of the Philippines.

Ernestine Tiamzon finished with a game-high 17 points, but it was Fil-Nigerian Eduke Ogunsanya who stole the spotlight, coming away with a career-best 11 markers, with five blocks.

Season 78 Finals MVP Kim Dy also fashioned out 11 markers.

NU saw its three-game winning come to a screeching halt, no thanks to DLSU’s 14 service errors.

Jaja Santiago struggled with a quiet 13-point game, getting minimal support from her teammates. Aiko Urdas added eight points while Jorelle was limited to just five markers.
