MANILA--Ateneo de Manila took its second victory in as many matches in the young UAAP men's football competition after blanking National University, 3-0, at the Moro Lorenzo Field in Quezon City.

Meanwhile, reigning champion University of the Philippines stopped University of the East, 4-0, to enter the win column.

Freshman Sam Lim opened the scoring for the Eagles, several minutes left at the first half. Gayoso then netted his third goal of the season, converting a penalty in the 49th minute after Ross Lawagan was handed a straight red card to a foul inside the box.

Finally, Mario Lorenzo Ceniza capped the goalfest late in the match as ADMU provisionally leads the table with six points and plus-7 goal difference.

UP, on the other hand, had to deal with East's tight defense before the champs opened the floodgates in the final third of the first half. Roland Saavedra broke the silence as he converted a penalty in the 32nd minute, taking advantage of a Mason Vergara handball violation inside the box.

With the Recto booters' will broken, it was all UP from thereon, as Sebastian Patangan scored with a line drive to the top left corner at the 38th minute, Kintaro Miyagi finding himself all alone against keeper Frank Rieza just before the end of the first half, and Ray Vincent Sanciangco stroked a grounder towards the far post at the 61st minute.

This is Maroons' first win after drawing with La Salle in their opener to temporarily go second with four points, while both UE and NU are tied with a point each after their setbacks.
