No Kim Dy, no problem as Lady Spikers brush aside Lady Falcons for solo top spot

PASAY CITY—De La Salle pummeled Adamson in straight sets, 25-13, 25-14, 25-16, to grab solo first place in the team standings in the first game of Saturday’s women’s volleyball action of the UAAP Season LXXIX at the Mall Of Asia Arena.

Playing without Kim Kianna Dy due to injury, the defending champions have now notched its sixth straight victory and an 11-2 record heading into the much-anticipated rematch with archrivals Ateneo on April 8.

Majoy Baron topscored for the Taft-based squad with 13 points anchored on six attacks, four blocks, and three service aces, while Desiree Cheng and Ernestine Tiamzon combined for 15 markers.

Dy, last season’s Finals MVP, missed her first game this season after suffering a minor ankle sprain in the team's last game opposite University of Santo Tomas.

The Lady Spikers dominated in the attacks (33-21) and blocks categories (8-3), while firing six service aces to take the game in just an hour and 13 minutes.

The loss, Adamson’s 13th consecutive this season and 20th stretching from Season 78, spoiled the return of Jemma Galanza to the Adamson line-up after missing the last outing due to illness. The skipper led the charge with 12 markers.

AdU’s last assignment will be against fellow cellar-dwellers University of the East on Wednesday, April 5.
