MANILA—Only one team among Star and Meralco will remain on top of the PBA Commissioner's Cup table as both clubs will collide on Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Currently tied for first place at 7-2, the Hotshots and the Bolts will take on each other at 7 p.m. with the winner not just owning sole possession of the top spot but also putting one foot on the twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.

While still having a chance for the playoff bonus, the losing side may need to hope that the other teams chasing for the top two finish, San Miguel, Ginebra, and TNT, falter in their remaining games to take the quarterfinal edge.

Meanwhile, NLEX and Alaska, two teams currently on a slump, battle in the first game at 4:15 p.m.

Already out of contention, the Road Warriors look to notch a win in the first of their last two chances to keep out of a dreaded 0-11 finish.

The Aces, on the other hand, have found themselves in danger of falling to the twice-to-beat disadvantage or even outright elimination after dropping their last four games following a 4-0 start that put them among early contenders for the playoff bonus.

An Alaska win can boost the team's quarterfinal bid.
