ASTANA, KAZAKHSTAN--Light flyweight Carlo Paalam turned out to be the only non-Kazakh gold medal winner at the President's Cup after prevailing over Askhat Zhusupov in the final held last weekend.
Other Filipino boxers who brought home medals include 2015 SEA Games gold medalist Mario Fernandez, who settled for silver after losing to World Series of Boxing and AIBA Pro Boxing mainstay Ilyas Suleimenov; and 2014 World Championship silver medalist Nesthy Petecio, who collected a bronze after getting defeated by Rimma Volosenko in the semifinal round.
The host country turned out to be the overall winner of the winner after garnering 12 of the possible 13 gold medals at stake.
