Marikina volts to top of PFL table after blitzing Cebu

MANILA -- The PFL now have a new leader in the table after JPV Marikina won away at Global Cebu last Sunday evening at the Rizal Memorial.

Takashi Odawara struck in both halves for a brace, as Voltes withstand a second half onslaught for a 2-1 win.

The skipper scored in the 25th and again in the 55th minute to put Dan Padernal's side ahead of Meralco Manila by a point in the table despite playing a match more.

Voltes have now won five straight matches, tying the Sparks' streak for the longest winning run.

Sekou Sylla pulled one back in the 69th minute but the Queen City outfit cannot avoid their second setback of the season to remain in third place.

What was astounding in this match was that both teams played in their temporary home as host-designate Global will formally debut in Cebu against Ceres ten days from now, while Marikina's pitch is being renovated to fit to the league standards.
