Seven teams move to next round of Ginebra 3x3 tourney

MANILA--Seven teams booked their tickets to the playoffs of the Ginebra San Miguel 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.

First up is Team Slaughter of Reynald Ballesteros, Robert Caasi, Mario Torio, and Dennis Cuaresma, who ruled the Dagupan regionals in Dagupan.

Another 3x3 squad named Team Slaughter, this time consisting of Eduard Tubera, Arbel Villanueva, Kleirence Perez, and Richmond Gana, reigned supreme in the Manila regionals, beating Team Mariano in the championship game.

However, another Team Mariano would go on to the next phase as Dion Reverente, Ivan Moreno, Mark Orias, and Mark Santos won the Las Piñas regional title.

Meanwhile, the quartet of Derick Villafuerte, Jomar Timple, Robert Sinnott, and Renzo Dalupang, also known as Team Cruz, took home the Cauayan regional championship.

On the other hand, representing San Fernando, Pampanga is Team Ellis of Angel De Leon, Kenneth Gomez, Mark Reyes, and Renato Liangco after winning the tournament there.

Team Jaworski of Christopher Hosseimi, James Abugan, Jomar Santos, and Marvin Mercado bested the rest of the field in the Antipolo regionals, while Team Thompson of Matt Guzman, Jonahis Sison, John Melgar, and Leonel Tabornal reigned supreme in the Banga regionals.

Nine more tournaments will be played in various parts of the country to determine the final members of the national tournament on Aug. 19-20.

The top four teams will get a rare chance to play at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City as the semifinals and the final will be held there on Aug. 20 during halftime of a Ginebra game.
