Teng fires 30 to lift Flying V to D-League playoffs

MANILA--Jeron Teng is not known for his threes, so CEU looked to exploit it on Tuesday night by going for a zone defense early to its PBA D-League Foundation Cup battle against Flying V.

Teng somehow made the Scorpions pay for it.

The six-foot-two wingman showed that he can fire it up from long range, dropping four triples as the Thunder pipped the Scorpions, 91-79, at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

CEU's decision to go zone quickly somehow bore fruit as Flying V only scored 14 points in the first quarter, but CEU failed to capitalize as the team could only make nine.

Just as the offense began to pick up, however, the Thunder also began pulling away with Teng burying back-to-back triples that served as the eventual back breaker for the Scorpions.

Teng finished with 30 points, while Eric Salamat also drilled in four long toms for 13 points for Flying V, which remains unbeaten after seven games and has secured a seat in the playoffs.

“It’s very important for us to make our outside shots,” said Coach Eric Altamirano, whose Thunder team actually nailed 11 triples overall.

Rod Ebondo had 22 markers and 21 rebounds for CEU, which fell to sixth place at 4-3.
