Gilas repeats rout of Myanmar

By Ivan Saldajeno

MANILA--Gilas Pilipinas once again gave Myanmar a bad beat, taking a 129-34 win in the SEA Games men's basketball tournament at the MABA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday night.

Just like how the national team's Team A, which included current Gilas SEA Games player Troy Rosario, bombed out the Burmese squad in the SEABA Championship last May in Quezon City, Gilas' Team B romped the team from start to finish as Kobe Paras, who only saw limited action against Thailand on Sunday night, put on a dunk show to the delight of the fans.

Paras actually had a solid all-around game with 20 points with six slams, eight rebounds, four assists, seven steals, and four blocks, while Toto Jose led Gilas with 22 points, five rebounds, and one steal. Both came off the bench.

Rosario was the top scorer among the starters with 14 markers alongside four boards and two steals.

Carl Cruz, who only flew in to Kuala Lumpur from Beirut on Monday, quickly joined the SEA Games team and chipped in 12 markers, four boards, and one steal.

Sai Phyo Kyaw paced Myanmar with 12 points in a game where scorer Wana Aung only tallied two markers.

The victory completes a 2-0 sweep of the Philippines over Myanmar in basketball as Perlas also had a walloping earlier Tuesday in women's play.
