Desiderio nabs Player of the Week plum after hot shooting nights for State U

The fire trucks are figuratively useless for the flaming hands of UP's Paul Desiderio, the unanimous UAAP Press Corps Player of the week.

Due to his flaming hands in the past two games, UP's Paul Desiderio was the the hands down choice for the second Chooks-To-Go/UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week.

After being limited by Ateneo's defense to just nine points last September 13, the super-senior Cebuano gunner torched the nets of both Araneta and Mall of Asia in their next two games, as he takes the scoring cudgels for the Fighting Maroons that defeated both UE and champions La Salle in that stretch.

In those back-to-back wins by the Fighting Maroons, Desiderio put up monster averages with 29 points, eight rebounds and 5 assists per game.

However, Desiderio took the plum on two things: his efficient outside shooting and his third quarter scoring.

Against UE last September 17, he scored 16 of UP's 26 third quarter points, including four triples to take the fight out of the Red Warriors' reach, overcoming a first-half deficit into a fifteen-point edge for the Fighting Maroons in the third.

Last Saturay against La Salle was almost the same story, hitting four three-pointers en route to a 13-point third quarter as State U gets the biggest fish of the season after fending off the challenges of the Green Archers.

Adding to his explosive scoring in the third quarter, Desiderio also shot lights out from downtown, lighting up the stats with a 58% 3-pt shooting (11/19) to lead the way for UP's two wins.

By scoring 30 against La Salle, he eclipsed former King Maroon Marvin Cruz's school record for most points in a single game, with Cruz netting 29 in their loss to Ateneo 11 years ago.
