Manila prevails against Younghusbands, Davao

By Ivan Saldajeno

MANILA--Meralco Manila's "Ambition Tour" reached a huge milestone.

Manila proved it can win against its former pillars James and Phil Younghusband, downing Davao, 2-0, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.

Second half goals from Tahj Minniecon and Jake Morallo delivered the goods for Manila as the club stretched its lead over Makati, which won earlier Saturday against Laguna, back to six points in the league table.

Minniecon broke the goalless deadlock in the 52nd minute with a powerful strike from the right side of the box.

Morallo then sealed the win with a timely header off a Tyler Matas cross in the 83rd minute.

Manila is now on 44 points and within eight points of clinching the first seat in the playoffs.

Davao is stuck at seven points and is now the only club without a win after Ilocos' breakthrough win over Marikina in Biñan. Davao, however, is still ahead of Ilocos on goal difference.
