Japanese pug named OPBF Boxer of the Year

PUERTO PRINCESA—Masayoshi Nakatani led the cast of awardees in the annual OPBF Awards at the Hari Ballroom of the Princesa Garden Island Resort on Friday night.

For his brilliant career in which he successfully defended his OPBF lightweight title eight times, the Japanese pug was named the Boxer of the Year by the said boxing body, the Asia-Pacific arm of the WBC.

Nakatani currently has a perfect record of 15 wins, no draw, and no loss.

Also feted were Filipino boxers Edward Heno, Mark John Yap, Carlo Magale, and Rene Dacquel, who also got OPBF titles of their own.

Also given citations were various promotions among the OPBF's member nations.

The OPBF also commended WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman for his organization's continuous support to the OPBF.

The awarding ceremonies was part of the 55th OPBF Convention.
