Trip down to Palawan from Baguio all worth it for Borres as he shocks former IBF champ

PUERTO PRINCESA--During the middle part of the Battle of Palawan: Night of Champions on Friday night, the lights of the Puerto Princesa City Coliseum went out due to an unexpected power interruption at the city proper.

The generators were activated, but the air conditioning units did not function properly due to the generators' limited capacity.

Jeronil Borres, who is used to the cold climate of Benguet, had to endure the heat inside the Palawan arena in his ABF flyweight title match against Robert Onggocan.

"Yung galaw ko, iba, kasi galing ako ng Baguio tapos pinababa ako. Parang naiba yung kundisyon ko," Borres told Dugout Philippines after the match. "Nasanay yung katawan ko sa malamig, tapos bigla kaming bumaba ng Maynila, kaya nasira [yung conditioning]."

Borres later said that he only came here on Wednesday, joining most of the delegates of the 55th OPBF Convention, in which the said fight card is the main highlight.

Luckily for Borres, whose match went the full length, he had enough strength and energy to hold off Onggocan.

Borres did not just take home the continental belt but also scored an upset against a former IBF youth champion.

"Proud ako kasi IBF youth champion yung kalaban ko kaya magaling," he said.
