Blackwater blasts off late to pip Phoenix in season finale

BATANGAS CITY--Blackwater snapped its losing streak that eventually cost them a shot at making the PBA Philippine Cup playoffs by whipping Phoenix, 102-83, on Saturday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

In the no-bearing game pitting also-ran teams, the Bossing pulled away for good in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Fuel Masters, 37-14, to seal the win.

Blackwater caught fire in general in the second half, scoring 72 points in total after Phoenix held them to just 30 in the first half.

The Fuel Masters had a shot at pulling away after outscoring the Bossing, 25-12, in the second quarter for a 36-30 halftime lead, but the Ever Bilena franchise found their offensive rhythm just in time.

Jaydee Tungcab led Blackwater, which finished its campaign in the season-ending conference at 4-7, with a career-high 19 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals off the bench.

Troy Rosario added 17 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists.

Jason Perkins put up 22 points, eight rebounds, and two assists for Phoenix, which fell to 3-8.
