Derbies highlight PFF Women's League opener

MANILA—Nov. 12 will be a huge day for Philippine women's football as the inaugural season of the PFF Women's League kicks off at the Rizal Memorial Stadium with a doubleheader of school-versus-alumni derbies highlighting the opening weekend of fixtures in the 11-team field.

After a short parade and introduction of players, and with Ateneo taking an opening week bye, FEU and OutKast will battle for the first Morayta derby in the curtain-raiser at 2 p.m., while UST clash with Fuego Espanya in a battle between current and former Tigresses at 4 p.m.

Formerly known as the Lady Tamz, the alumni club gets a huge boost to their side by snagging the feared trio of Sharmaine Siaotong, Alessa Dolino and Barbie Sobredo who already graduated from their alma mater after playing their final UAAP game last season.

A Sunday tripleheader follows after the aforementioned derbies, with Hiraya taking on Kaya at 2 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. blockbuster between reigning UAAP titlists UP and Green Archers United and will be capped off with TYFA-La Salle tiff at 6 p.m.
