TNT zooms past SMB to set title series with Magnolia

MANILA--It's TNT vs. Magnolia in the PBA Philippine Cup Finals.

The Tropang Giga the final seat in the championship series after taking down the San Miguel Beermen, 97-79, in the final game of their best-of-seven semifinals on Sunday night at the Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.

TNT blasted SMB, 30-13, in the second quarter to overturn a 15-23 first-quarter deficit into a 45-36 halftime lead.

The Beermen, despite a gallant effort from June Mar Fajardo in the second half, struggled to get back in the game and were eventually blown out by the Tropang Giga in the end.

RR Pogoy exploded in the semifinal decider with 27 points on 10-for-19 shooting including 4-of-6 on three-pointers, two rebounds, and two assists for TNT, which could complete playoff domination of the San Miguel Corporation teams if it beats Magnolia in the finals.

Mikey Williams added 20 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

Fajardo finished with 22 points, 18 in the second half, 16 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks for SMB, which missed the Philippine Cup Finals for the second straight year after an unprecedented five-peat.
