MANILA--ONE 171: Qatar has got its two headliners, and Filipino fans are going to be in for a treat.
Reigning ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio will finally settle the score with interim titleholder and bitter rival Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks in the co-main event scheduled for Feb. 20, 2025, at Lusail Sports Arena.
Coincidentally, Pacio marks his return after nearly a year of being sidelined from an injury he sustained at the same venue.
The Filipino’s highly anticipated rematch against Brooks ended abruptly when the American was disqualified for spiking Pacio to the canvas headfirst, a move illegal under the global rule set.
Pacio was taken out on a stretcher but was thankfully cleared of major head, neck, or spine injuries. He did aggravate his ACL tear in that fight, leaving him on the sidelines ever since.
Bannering the show will be the return of English kickboxing megastar Jonathan “The General” Haggerty, who will defend his ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Title against Chinese striking star Wei Rui.
“ONE 171: Qatar is already shaping up to be one of the biggest spectacles of the year. Jonathan Haggerty is a certified superstar, but he is set to face one of his toughest tests yet in Chinese icon Wei Rui,” ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong said.
“Also, I can’t wait to see the third fight between Joshua Pacio and Jarred Brooks to determine who will reign supreme as the undisputed ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion.”
There’s still no word as to who will join the quartet at the event, but based on how stacked the card was for Qatar last year, fans can expect a lot more from ONE Championship.
