MANILA--Strong Group Athletics clinched a spot in the Dubai International Basketball Championship semifinals after tripping Sharjah, 100-63, in their knockout quarterfinal early Friday (Philippine Time) at the Al-Nasr Club in Dubai.
SGA blasted off late in the first quarter, finishing the quarter on a 26-5 run to take a 31-16 lead, and never looked back from there.
DeMarcus Cousins led SGA, now 5-0 overall in the tournament, with 21 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, one block, and two steals.
Chris McCullough added 20 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two blocks off the bench.
Nicholas West paced Sharjah, which finished its stint with only one win against Zamboanga in Group B action to show, with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting, seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal, while DeQuan Jones added 18 points, six rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
SGA gets a day off before facing Tunisia, a 93-83 winner against Amman United in the first quarterfinal, in the semis early Sunday (Philippine Time).
