MANDALUYONG—Perennial PFL contender Stallion Laguna returns to the mainstream seven-a-side football scene as it will field in a squad in the 7's Super League.
Stallion Laguna, to be known as the Binan Stallions, is one of four new clubs joining the second season of the 7's Football League's main attraction.
"I want to thank Anton [Del Rosario, 7x7 Football League Philippines founder] for giving us at Stallion this opportunity," said striker Finn McDaniel, who will play for Binan's sevens team while keeping his role in its PFL squad, during the entire 7's Football League season launch on Tuesday at Matchpoint Sports Bar inside SM Center Shaw.
Also coming in are teams from Carmona, Cavite, and Bulacan.
Six of the seven clubs that clashed in the inaugural 7's Super League season last year will return, led by defending champion Pampanga, fellow finalist Alabang, and equally competitive Bonifacio Global City, Pasig, Siniloan, and Paranaque.
Thus, Season 2 will feature a 10-team field.
Although Quezon City begs off from competition this time, Metro Manila will remain well-represented with its four holdover squads.
However, the arrival of Binan, Carmona, and Cavite means two more provinces will have multiple teams competing in the 7's Super League.
Siniloan head coach Brice Richardson looks forward to building a rivalry for Laguna's sevens football supremacy with Stallion Laguna-Binan while also keeping some close looks at what would unfold in the intense battles pitting the Metro Manila and Cavite teams.
"I welcome the opportunity," Richardson said.
"I think those intra-provincial rivalries are going to be fantastic."
While the 7's Super League returns to the McKinley Hill Stadium in Taguig after finishing the 2024 season at the Atleta 63 Turf in Pasig, Del Rosario said that some matches may be played in other cities.
"We could expect some of these teams to have some home games matched up with the weekend seven-a-side tournament, so as we set up a seven-a-side tournament in each of these different cities, we will be highlighting the tournaments with the home games," Del Rosario said.
The new 7's Super League season will kick off on Feb. 16, coinciding with the start of the regular 7's Football League events where teams from six different age groups will clash.
The 7's Football League now has a new presenting partner in Skechers.
