Marcio Lassiter converted on a layup with 7.1 seconds left to lift his San Miguel Beermen to a 78-77 win against the Rain Or Shine Elastopainters in a preseason game at the AUF Gym in Angeles City.

Lassiter saved the day for the Beermen in the first game of the Liga ng Bayan preseason series as he drove to the lane and made the game-winning lay-in after the Beermen lost a late 11-point lead.

San Miguel actually trailed by as much as ten, 22-32, early on as Rain Or Shine controlled most of the first half.

But San Miguel began pouring it on in the second half as it completely melt Rain Or Shine's ten-point lead and built its own 11-point cushion, 65-54, early into the fourth quarter.

Veteran Don Allado, however, ignited the Elastopainters' 18-7 run later in the period to take a 72-71 lead with 2:54 left in the match.

Chris Lutz then converted on a triple to put the Beermen back in the lead, 74-72.

Allado responded with a layup off an assist from Larry Rodriguez to tie the match anew, 74-all.

Jonathan Uyloan, however, fouled Lutz in the next play, and Lutz converted on two free throws to give San Miguel the lead again, 76-74, with 31.9 seconds left.

In the ensuing possession, Chris Tiu missed the second of his two free throws after a Beermen foul, but Uyloan converted the follow-up to put the E-Painters up, 77-76, with only 16.8 seconds for their opponents to steal the win.

Lassiter, however, made a quick attack to the rim and converted the match-deciding shot as Rain Or Shine failed to steal the win at the final horn.

Lassiter finished with eight markers, while Lutz had 23 for the Beermen.

Tiu led the Elastopainters with 15 points.

In their preseason debut, ROS' first round picks Jericho Cruz and Kevin Alas had seven and two points respectively.
