Lyceum stays in Final Four contention with rout of EAC

By Dugout Philippines

Lyceum pulled away late in the fourth quarter to nip EAC, 91-75, in the resumption of the NCAA men's basketball games at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.

The Pirates threatened to rout the Generals earlier after building an 11-point lead, 48-37, early in the third quarter.

But the Generals unleashed a 21-8 run to take the edge, 58-56, later in the period.

Lyceum closed the third canto on a 9-1 run to reclaim the lead, 65-59, entering the final frame.

Things got a bit feisty in the fourth when EAC's John Tayongtong ran over Lyceum's Dexter Zamora after the latter hurt his ankle while taking a three-pointer. Tayongtong was slapped with an unsportsmanlike foul.

Later in the period, the Pirates finally pulled away for good after unleashing a 9-2 run that opened a double-digit advantage that they held on till the end.

Jerb Bulawan scored 20 points on 7/11 shooting and seven rebounds for Lyceum, which is now three games behind CSB for fourth place with five games left in their schedule.

Tayongtong had a game-high 24 points for EAC, which further dropped to 3-11.
