NU posted a huge UAAP men's taekwondo tournament upset as it defeated La Salle, 4-3, in their tie at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
Behind Afred Villa, Aljon Ortonio, Dave Cea, and Alven Alcantara, the Bulldogs, who finished in last place the previous year, nipped the defending champions Green Archers to force a tie for second place with identical 2-1 slates.
UE joined NU and La Salle at joint second after beating FEU, 4-3, in another series.
The Green Archers' loss left the UST Growling Tigers as the only remaining team without a defeat in the ongoing tourney.
The Tigers beat the Bulldogs earlier in the day, 5-2, before sweeping the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 7-0.
At the women's side, UP and La Salle fashioned out contrasting wins to keep their own unbeaten slate intact.
The Lady Maroons subdued the NU Lady Bulldogs, 4-3, while the Lady Archers convincingly beat the Ateneo Lady Eagles, 6-1, to post their respective third straight wins.
The defending women's champions UST Tigresses hacked out a 6-1 win against the UE Lady Warriors to keep in step with the Lady Maroons and the Lady Archers with a 2-1 record.
