UST staved off a shaky start before beating La Salle, 21-15, 21-11, to win the UAAP women's beach volleyball title at the UE Caloocan sand courts.

The rookie pair of Cherry Rondina and Rica Rivera trailed, 0-4, early into the game, but they bounced back and controlled the game from there.

Ara Galang checked in for Cyd Demecillo to team up with Kim Fajardo in the second set, but that was to no avail as UST already stomped its dominance.

The win also set aside UST's loss in Game 2 of the series that prevented the team from completing a sweep of the beach volleyball season.

Rondina could not believe that she and Rivera won the title despite being rookies. Rondina said, "Hindi ako makapaniwala kasi mga beterano kasi ang mga kinalaban namin. Ang sa amin eh yung maglaro kung anong itinuro sa amin ni coach [Emil Lontoc]."

UST now ties Adamson with the most number of women's beach volleyball championships with three apiece.

NU, however, prevented UST from completing a beach volleyball double as the Bulldogs trounced the Growling Tigers, 19-21, 21-18, 17-15, in the men's finals rubber match.

Josephenry Tipay clinched the win for NU with a huge kill to earn him and Edwin Tolentino their third consecutive beach volleyball title, tying FEU in the male side.

Tipay, also crowned the season MVP, said, "[This is a] great exit [for us]; napakaganda ng team chemistry namin. Hindi naging madali para sa amin, pero nandoon ang puso namin. Hindi kami nagpabaya."
