UST stays perfect in UAAP taewkondo

Aries Capispisan delivered the goods for the UST Growling Tigers as he defeated Gerry Del Rosario to help the Tigers beat the De La Salle Green Archers, 4-3, in the UAAP Taekondo Tournament at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.

Capispisan deposed Del Rosario, 7-6, in the deciding match in the light heavyweight division to give UST its fifth straight win in as many ties to put the team closer to winning the men's title.

Earlier in the tie, Joaquin Mendoza, Paul Romero, and Rhey Catris beat their respective opponents for the Growling Tigers.

The female team also boosted its chances of taking the women's championship after beating UP, 4-3.

Heavyweight Jane Narra took out Cyrmyn Perlas, 7-6, in the rubber match to give the Tigresses the series win and hand the Lady Maroons their first loss of the tournament.

Reigning MVP Nicole Cham, Colleen Heria, and Korina Paladin also won for UST in the earlier bouts.

The win also forged a three-way tie at the top of the team standings at 4-1 between UST, UP, and La Salle, who won over UE in another tie, 6-1.
