GlobalPort made sure its late implosion against NLEX on Wednesday will not happen again as the team held on to a 91-81 win against Barako Bull at the resumption of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
The Batang Pier began pulling away late in the third quarter as they turned a close game to a 70-58 cushion.
The Energy Cola crawled back with a 9-2 run and cut the lead to five later in the period, 72-67.
GlobalPort rebuilt an 11-point advantage in the fourth quarter, 85-74.
Another 7-2 run kept Barako Bull in the game as the lead was down to six anew, 87-81.
But Mark Isip sealed the win for the Batang Pier as he scored back-to-back baskets for the final tally.
Isip finished the game with 12 points, while Alex Cabagnot led GlobalPort, now at 1-1, with 21 markers and Stanley Pringle added 19.
Terrence Romeo, who exploded for 33 points in the Batang Pier's debut against the Road Warriors, was limited to only nine points.
Dennis Miranda scored 16 points for the Energy Cola, who slipped to 0-2.
