In an early blow to his team's PBA Philippine Cup campaign, Purefoods Star Hotshot Ian Sangalang injured his right ACL according to initial MRI readings.

Sangalang hurt his right knee after getting fouled by Samigue Eman in the third quarter of the Hotshots' game against the Alaska Aces won by the latter.

"Hindi maganda. Dalawang ligament ata ang putol. That’s the initial reading on his MRI test," said Purefoods Governor Rene Pardo, who also said that Sangalang also tore another knee ligament.

"We’re sending the result to [Team Doctor Raul Canlas] for his own finding. Pero mukha talagang ACL tear. May narinig si Ian na nag-pop sa tuhod niya," he added.

Once confirmed, Sangalang will undergo surgery that will sideline him for at least six months, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the Philippine Cup and even the succeeding Commissioner's Cup.

The injury to Sangalang could force the management to reactivate Marc Pingris.

Purefoods gave Pingris a rest after his grueling stint with Gilas Pilipinas.

As of now, the Hotshots have yet to make a decision regarding Pingris, who is scheduled not to see action until October 31.
