What could the last two NCAA playdates mean for Perpetual Help, JRU, and CSB?

By Ivan Saldajeno

We're down to the last two elimination round doubleheaders in the NCAA. The two twice-to-beat advantages have already been taken as San Beda and Arellano booked the top two spots last week (although the final ranking will still depend on Arellano's game against Lyceum on Wednesday). All that matter now is on which teams will join the two in the Final Four. Only three teams are left in the race, Perpetual Help, JRU, and CSB. The Altas have already finished their elimination round campaign with a win against San Sebastian. On the other hand, the Blazers still have two games left, while the Heavy Bombers have one more. Here are the remaining games involving both CSB and JRU:

Monday-Mapua vs. CSB; JRU vs. San Sebastian
Wednesday-Letran vs. CSB

Here are their current standings:

Perpetual Help 12-6
JRU 11-6
CSB 10-6

Here are their head-to-head results:

Perpetual Help vs. JRU: 61-62, 76-80 (137-142 agg)
Perpetual Help vs. CSB: 73-77, 65-62 (138-139 agg)
JRU vs. CSB: 69-61, 69-71 (138-132 agg)

Here are the possible scenarios:

1. If JRU wins and CSB loses at least one of its last two games: CSB is eliminated, while JRU and Perpetual Help (0.965) battle for third.

2. If CSB splits its last two games and JRU loses: Both CSB and JRU will battle for the last Final Four slot, while Perpetual Help stays in third.

3. If CSB loses to both Mapua and Letran; and JRU loses: CSB is eliminated, while Perpetual Help stays in third and JRU stays in fourth.

4. If CSB wins both games and JRU loses: JRU is eliminated, while CSB and Perpetual Help battle for third.

5. If CSB wins both games and JRU wins: A three-way for third place happens. JRU, with the best quotient at 1.041, will await the winner of the game between CSB (0.982) and Perpetual Help (0.979), who will battle for fourth.
