Abueva goes 20-20 as Aces subdue Sorentos after late run

By Ivan Saldajeno

Calvin Abueva put up beastly numbers again as Alaska turn back Kia, 85-75, to stay perfect after five games of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

Abueva scored 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting and grabbed 21 rebounds in the game where the Aces needed a late fourth quarter effort on both ends to take down the gutsy Sorentos.

Alaska built a 14-point edge, 66-52, after the third quarter due to a strong quarter.

But Kia opened a 14-3 run in the fourth period to cut the lead to three, 69-66.

Both teams came toe-to-toe for most of the final quarter.

Alaska finally pulled away for good after building the game-ending 8-2 run.
