Former Azkals team captain Chieffy Caligdong believes Simone Rota, Daisuke Sato, and Kenshiro Daniels all have what it takes to don the captain's armband in the future.

"Lahat naman sila capable [maging captain]," the Green Archers United star, who recently retired from international play, thought of Rota, Sato, and Daniels, who play for Stallion, Global, and Kaya respectively in the pros.

Chieffy, however, admitted that he had a conversation with the current Azkals skipper, Rob Gier, about the toughness of being the captain.

Caligdong, though, hopes that the team will still thrive now that he announced his retirement as an Azkal.

"Kung ano man yung darating na mga pagsubok, malampasan nila," he said.

What is his advice for Rota, Sato, and Daniels, who are set to make their AFF Suzuki Cup debut against Laos on Saturday? "Sana mag-strive sila 100 percent."

The AFF Suzuki Cup became the stepping stone to the rise of the Azkals following a breakthrough semifinal finish in the 2010 edition highlighted by a huge upset against Vietnam in the group stage.

Since then, the Azkals slowly rose to become the top international football team in the ASEAN region.
