PBA Commissioner Chito Salud slapped a PHP150 thousand fine and a one-game suspension to Tanduay Light coach Lawrence Chongson for his recent statement regarding the PBA's developmental league.
Salud reasoned, "Coach Chongson had publicly issued statements critical of and prejudicial to the best interests of the league; statements offensive to and disrespectful of the reputation and image of the member-teams mentioned in the interview; and an allegation that a particular member-team is not indepedently run and operated, a statement that this Office finds to be reckless and unsubstantiated."
Salud later said, "Coach Chongson had been strongly advised by this Office to observe caution in conducting public interviews in the future dealing with topics that may negativelyimpact on the best interests of the league,as well as, be considered hurtful and damaging to the stature ang goodwill of other member-teams."
Chongson recently made comments regarding an alleged imbalance in the competition and called Hapee a "super-team" and tagged the club as "MVP-run" because most of the players in the team played for teams bankrolled by Manny Pangilinan.
Before that, Chongson expressed concerns when he lost two of the players who are supposedly in his lineup to other teams.
