Talk 'n Text nearly lost a 22-point cushion but held on to a 90-80 win against Blackwater in the lone Saturday game of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Alonte Sports Center in Binan City.
The Tropang Texters, who actually trailed at some points in the first half, appeared to be pulling away from the Elites after building a 62-40 lead with 5:08 remaining in the third quarter.
But the Elites slowly chipped the lead and were within nine, 57-66, at the end of the third after a 17-4 run.
Talk 'n Text opened the fourth period with another rally to stretch the gap to 15, 78-63.
But Blackwater threatened again after cutting the lead to as low as eight, 84-76, with less than three minutes left.
The Elites' late run, however, proved to be a bit too late as the Tropang Texters protected the lead in the end.
Jayson Castro led Talk 'n Text with 21 points and six rebounds.
