USC almost squandered a 24-point lead but held on to an 88-74 win in the nightcap of the first day of the Elite 8 round of the PCCL at the Cebu City Coliseum.
In a battle between league runners-up, the CESAFI's Warriors raced to a 34-10 lead against the UAAP's Tamaraws early in the second quarter.
But the Tams outscored the Warriors, 43-20, in a juncture of the game spanning the second and the third periods to draw to within one, 53-54.
USC, however, returned to form in time and rebuilt the double-digit edge that the team would hold on until the end.
