Chinese boxing sensation Zou Shiming successfully defended his WBO International Flyweight championship against Thai boxer Kwanpichit OnesongchaiGym in the co-main event of the Pacquiao-Algieri fight card at the Cotai Arena in Macau.
In a battle between unbeaten pugs, the former Olympic gold medalist knocked down his opponent, who became an instant celebrity for being a lookalike of Manny Pacquiao, four times and bucked a swollen right eye for his sixth straight victory via unanimous decision.
Zou downed OnesongchaiGym twice in the second round and made two more knockdowns in the sixth and the 12th rounds.
Filipino referee Danrex Tapdasan, however, threatened to end the prematurely and give Zou the win via disqualification as he cautioned OnesongchaiGym thrice for low blows, the second of which came in Round 6 leading to a one-point deduction, effectively making Zou's dominance in that round a 10-7 score following his knockdown.
One judge gave a 120-103 scoreline, while the other two had it 119-106 each.
Zou moves to 6-0 in his pro career, while OnesongchaiGym suffered his first loss after scoring 27 wins and two draws.
