Purefoods seals seventh spot with rout of Barako Bull

By Dugout Philippines

Purefoods pulled away in the last three periods to wallop Barako Bull, 99-83, in the first game of the PBA's first tripleheader in two years at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

After a close first quarter where the Hotshots led the Energy, 27-23, the Hotshots began the rout in the second quarter, where they increased the gap to 14, 52-38, at the half.

The Energy looked to crawl back after trimming the lead to as low as eight, 80-72, early in the fourth quarter.

But Purefoods finally secured the W after again widening the lead to as high as 15 and never looked back.

Marc Pingris led the Hotshots with 20 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Mick Pennisi, who came from the Barako camp via trade, tallied three points in his Purefoods debut.

J.C. Intal also had 20 markers to lead the Energy, who dropped to ninth place.

Isaac Holstein and Ronnie Matias, who were exchanged for Pennisi, finished with a combined five points.
