Arellano opens NCAA Final Four with victory against San Sebastian

Arellano needed a fight back in the third set before hacking out a 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 win against San Sebastian at the start of the NCAA women's volleyball Final Four at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.

After the Lady Chiefs smoothly sailed to a 2-0 match lead, the Lady Stags opened a 16-11 advantage in the third set, threatening to extend the match.

But Arellano scored 14 of the set's last 19 points to get its tenth straight win overall in the tournament.

Menchie Tubiera led the Lady Chiefs with 14 points off 13 spikes and a block, while Christine Rosario also scored 14 off 10 attacks and four blocks.

Gretchel Soltones made 15 points for the Lady Stags, whose coach Roger Gorayeb rushed to the Mall of Asia Arena for his first game as the NU Lady Bulldogs' coach.
