Ateneo opened its bid for a third consecutive UAAP baseball championship on a high note as ace pitcher Andy Tan led the team to a win.
Tan struck out five batters as the Blue Eagles turned back the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 5-3, last Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
With his impressive pitching, Tan, the reigning MVP, paved the way for Ateneo to take a 4-0 lead after four innings. The Eagles then fended off the Falcons' fightback to clinch their first win.
In other results, Season 76 runner-up La Salle ripped UP, 19-5 after seven innings, while UST beat NU, 8-3.
