Ateneo needed the full length of the match before escaping La Salle, 25-22, 25-27, 16-25, 25-14, 15-9, in their UAAP women's volleyball finals rematch in front of 18,489 people at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Lady Eagles crawled back from conceding Sets 2 and 3 with a dominating performance in the last two sets to complete a 7-0 sweep of the first round.
Ateneo committed a total of 41 errors in the first three sets, which helped La Salle go up, 2-1, in the game. But the Lady Eagles only made five the rest of the way as their near-flawless play helped them complete the comeback win as the Lady Spikers had a huge error late in the fifth set.
Alyssa Valdez led Ateneo, which swept a back-to-back after beating UE the night before, with 26 points, while Amy Ahomiro, who caught fire late, added 13.
Ara Galang scored 11 for La Salle, which dropped its first loss of the season.
