CSB staved off a big Arellano comeback to take a 25-16, 25-22, 12-25, 12-25, 15-12 win in their last NCAA women's volleyball semifinal outing at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
After cruising to a 2-0 lead, the Lady Blazers were poised to snap the Lady Chiefs' unbeaten streak.
But the Lady Chiefs mounted a huge rally in the next two sets, scoring identical 25-12 results to force a fifth set.
Arellano then raced to an 8-2 lead in Set 5, moving the team closer to complete the semifinal sweep.
But CSB bounced back and leaned on the game-turning 13-4 run to steal the win and finally give its opponent its first loss of the season.
Jannine Navarro led the Lady Blazers, who tied the Lady Chiefs at the Top 2 with 2-1 record each, with 15 points on 14 spikes, while team captain Jeanette Panaga added 12.
The Lady Blazers' hopes of making the championship round, however, will depend on the San Sebastian-Perpetual Help game, which is ongoing as of press time.
Menchie Tubiera scored 16 markers on 15 attacks for the Lady Chiefs, who despite the loss will still qualify for the best-of-three finals.
