FEU banked on first half goals to beat Ateneo, 2-0, in the match between the last two UAAP football champions at the FEU Diliman Football Field in Quezon City.

Paolo Bugas struck first for the defending champion in the 15th minute as he fired a rocket goal that went straight inside the post. Ariel Amita then duplicated in the 33rd minute.

The game in general, however, was highly physical as a number of yellow cards were drawn out and some players, particularly from the Tamaraws camp, got stretchered off.

The Tamaraws now find themselves in a provisional logjam with the UP Fighting Maroons at number one in the league table with 13 points each. The Fighting Maroons, however, remain on top of standings due to a superior goal difference against the Tamaraws.

The Blue Eagles, on the other hand, fell to fourth place following the De La Salle Green Booters' win over the NU Bulldogs earlier in the day.

Action will resume on January 22 to give way to Pope Francis' trip to the Philippines.
