Lady Blazers take straight set win against Lady Altas

By Ivan Saldajeno

CSB raced to a 26-24, 25-22, 25-18 straight set win against Perpetual Help in the second game of the NCAA women's volleyball semifinal doubleheader at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.

It turned out to be a tough one for the Lady Blazers, though, as the Lady Altas, the defending champions, forced the extension of the first set and even led late in the second.

CSB led, 24-22, in the first set when the team committed a crucial error and Perpetual Help's Lourdes Clemente followed with a spike to tie the set, 24-all.

But Jannine Navarro gave the Lady Blazers the advantage and team captain Jeanette Panaga scored the set point to clinch the first set.

The Lady Altas still gave up a fight and raced to a 21-16 lead in the ensuing set.

But Navarro led the Lady Blazers' final attack as they ended the set on a 9-1 run to take a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Blazers then raced to a 17-8 third set lead and bucked yet another Lady Altas rally to take the match.

Navarro led CSB with 18 points on 17 attacks and an ace.
