The Arellano Lady Chiefs, moved to within a win from their first NCAA women's volleyball title after downing the San Sebastian Lady Stags, 25-18, 25-15, 20-25, 25-19, in Game 1 of their championship series at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Chiefs overcame a poor third set and beat the Lady Stags, gaining a chance to sweep the best-of-three showdown on Friday.
“Our goal is to give the school its first title and hopefully we could accomplish it on Friday,” said Arellano coach Obet Javier.
Danna Henson led the Lady Chiefs with 18 points, 15 on kills, while CJ Rosario, Menchie Tubiera and Rialen Sante added 15, 13 and 11 each.
San Sebastian’s Gretchel Soltones scored a game-high 20.
