Marcial mulls North versus South battle possibility in PBA All-Stars

By Dugout Philippines

PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial spoke about the high probability of the return of the North-South format for the 2015 PBA All-Star Game at the Puerto Princesa City Coliseum on March 8.

"That's the plan [the North versus South game]," Marcial said in a statement to the league's website.

However, Marcial still awaits the decision of the SBP if the said NSA will immediately form a new Gilas Pilipinas team in time for the All-Stars.

"...that will happen unless the Gilas Pilipinas pool is reassembled and the SBP requests for another participation by the national team in the All-Star Game," he added.

Should plans push through, this will be the first time in four years that the best PBA players from Luzon will take on the top players from the Visayas-Mindanao region in the all-star game.

For bringing their respective teams to the Philippine Cup Finals, San Miguel coach Leo Austria and Alaska coach Alex Compton will handle the teams.

The North versus South format for the All-Star Game was first implemented in 1992. The North All-Stars lead the South All-Stars all-time, 6-4.

In 2009, the North and the South teams took on the Powerade Team Pilipinas on separate occasions during the All-Star Week. The national team won against both all-star squads.
