UP leveled with Ateneo, 2-2, to remain on top of the table at the start of the second round of the UAAP Season 77 men's football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo Football Field.
The Fighting Maroons got a break after a Jin Montemayor own goal on the 56th minute to take a 2-1 cushion but the Blue Eagles equalized the match courtesy of a Emilio Acosta strike four minutes later.
Ateneo opened the scoring with Wilson Montemayor drilling in on the 18th minute before UP countered when Jose Anton Yatco found the back of the net on the 20th minute.
Over at the FEU-Diliman pitch, defending champion FEU and La Salle battled to a 1-1 draw.
The Tamaraws, who played for the first time without reigning MVP Paolo Bugas who is out of the season due to an ACL injury, got the lead after Jess Melliza was fouled inside the box and scored the spot kick on the 84th minute, before the Green Booters converted a 89th minute goal courtesy of Chuckie Uy.
UP now has 17 points, a point clear of second-running La Salle. Ateneo is still in third spot with 15 points.
