Barako escapes as Ginebra's late run falls short

Barako Bull almos lost a late eight-point lead but still held on to a 69-68 win against Ginebra in their PBA Commissioner's Cup clash at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan City.

The Energy led, 67-59, with 3:02 left in the game.

But Mark Caguioa and L.A. Tenorio converted on consecutive layups to cut the lead to four.

Sol Mercado made a tough layup on the other end to stretch the lead to six, 69-63, with 1:26 remaining.

Ginebra muffed its next offensive but bounced back as Joseph Yeo stole the ball from Mercado and laid the ball in to come to within four anew, 65-69.

Yeo then fired a three after another failed Barako play to cut the deficit to one.

Chico Lanete left the window open for the Gin Kings as he missed a triple and Michael Dunigan grabbed the rebound with nine seconds left.

But Yeo missed the potential game-winning three at the buzzer.

Lanete had 17 points and three steals to lead the Energy to their second straight win.

Greg Slaughter made a game-high 18 markers for the Gin Kings, who fell down to 0-2.
