Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar will take on Urijah Faber in the main event of the MMA promotion's first event in the Philippines.

Edgar, who decided to cut weight and joined the featherweights, battles Faber, the former WEC featherweight titleholder, in a five-round non-title fight to highlight the UFC Fight Night on May 16 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Edgar, currently on a three-fight winning streak, could earn a shot at another UFC title with a win against Faber, who is returning to the 145-pound level after spending some time in the bantamweights.

Faber expressed his excitement to face Edgar, who he looked up to during his first years in the MMA scene. "Fighting a guy like Frankie Edgar is exactly the reason I got into this sport. I’m a fan of the heart Frankie has as a fighter, something I’m known for as well," Faber said.

Still, Faber vowed to beat his "idol" in front of the MMA-crazy Filipino fans. "I plan on winning and putting on a show in the process," he said.
