FEU knocks out UST in five-setter playoff

By Ivan Saldajeno

PASAY--FEU almost lost a 2-0 lead but banked on an impressive fifth set to oust UST, 25-21, 25-15, 20-25, 16-25, 15-6, in their UAAP women's volleyball playoff match at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Lady Tamaraws seemed to be finally getting the better of the Tigresses, who won both of their previous meetings, as Gen Casugod, Rem Palma, Bernadette Pons, and rookie Heather Guino-o team up to take the first two sets.

But Cherry Rondina sparked the Tigresses' comeback as she re-energized them and forced the deciding race to 15.

FEU finally escaped with the win as Pons led the way in the fifth set to set a date with NU on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in the next playoff round.

Pons, Casugod, and Guino-o finished with 17 points each. For UST, Pam Lastimosa had a game-high 19 markers.
