MANILA--South China gave Global a rude welcome to the AFC Cup with a 6-1 beating at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Daniel McBreen opened the scoring with a brace in the second and in the 27 minutes, while Lo Wong-Kai scored just before halftime by taking advantage of a wrong move by Patrick Deyto.
Chan Wai-Ho continued South China's onslaught as he started the second half by converting a free kick before Mahama Awal capped the Hong Kong-based club's scoring with a brace of his own.
Mike Jonsson gave the Philippine side an 87th minute goal, which turned out to be a breakthrough as Global embarks on its first stint in the continental club football tournament.
In other AFC Cup actions, Persib Bandung whipped New Radiant, 4-1, Beijing stunned Brisbane, 1-0, Pahang subdued Yadanarbon, 3-2, Western Sydney defeated Kashima, 3-1, Suwon beat Urama, 2-1, Guangzhou won over Seoul, 1-0, and Lao drew with Ayeyawady, 2-all.
