Global defeats Pachanga in UFL Valentine's nightcap

By Ivan Saldajeno

MANILA--Amani Aguinaldo gave his girlfriend, volleybelle Mae Tajima, and the other Global fans a cool Valentine's Day gift--his first career UFL goal that turned out to be decider of the club's match against Pachanga.

The UP standout scored a header just when play resumed after a long delay to lead Global to a 2-0 win against Pachanga at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The officials halted the match at the 32nd minute as the lights at the pitch went off because of electrical problems. The stoppage lasted for about ten minutes.

The referees decided to continue the match despite not completely fixing the lighting problems.

Aguinaldo then got the ball after a corner kick and headed the ball home four minutes into the resumption of play, delighting the Global fans in attendance that included the Ateneo Lady Eagle.

The crowd went louder as Renato Gonzalez made his UFL debut as a substitute and dished out good passes in the second half.

The Global backline led by Aguinaldo forced the Pachanga offense to only a few good looks at the goal as the latter failed to threaten for most of the match.

Satoshi Otomo sealed the final score with a goal just before the final whistle.

Global, which made some tactical changes by activating Gonzalez, giving stars Misagh Bahadoran and Patrick Deyto a rest, and putting Izo Elhabib at the right wing, moved up to provisional second place with four points.
